Mr. Obama can prattle on about the audacity of hope. I prefer discussion of the twin prerogatives of boldness and shyness. When I reported on Rachel McAdams’ refusal to pose nude for the cover of Vanity Fair, I acknowledged the dignity of both moods, despite the frustration of us guys when a woman as beautiful as McAdams holds back. The “Tease Frame” photo on page 18 of the July-August Playboy shows her smiling and topless in a shot from My Name is Tanino (which I haven’t seen). The caption mentions her avoidance of nudity in recent years. But after all, if girls never said no, it wouldn’t be so special when they say yes.
