Don’t get the wrong idea about that recent Hit & Run comment

I just became aware of a potentially embarrassing mistake I made commenting on Reason magazine’s blog, Hit & Run. The potential confusion arises from the unusual fact that my blog’s “About Me” paragraph in the sidebar says something totally different from the equivalent space on my Blogger profile page.

Unfortunately, without knowledge of said unusual fact, some people might get the wrong idea, depending on which link they followed first, from my comment on a post about Rudy Giuliani:

Giuliani is a fucking pig. I know his type all too well. Unfortunately, I was raised by one. (Read under the “About Me” heading.)
To clarify, I didn’t mean to call Hugh Hefner a pig in any figurative or, um, literal manner of speaking.

Self-released blog dish: The “About Me” paragraph as it reads here will soon change, too.

Sorry Brian, Guiliani rules. Part social liberal, part fascist, part crazy M-F'er, all Republican. I'm not kidding. The first presidential candidadte who speaks directly to me and shares all of my views. [Sex, good: Piss Christ, bad; killing America's enemies, Awesome!]

I only voted for Bush twice because I hated the people that hated him. I actually like Rudy G. He's my Obama.

You disappoint me, Robert, if you think any degree of fascism at all is acceptable in a president of the United States. Our one fascist president so far has been one too many.

    Facism: A childhood remembrance

When I was growing up I would go to Spain every summer since My mom was from there originally. I remember a clean, pretty place. After Franco died in 1976, the next time I returned there after his death was in 1979. Things were very different even to a 12 year old's eyes. Dogshit on every sidewalk, hardcore pornography for sale at kiosks next to the comic books, filthy drug addicts loitering in public places, nudity on broadcast TV. I realize that this is a HIGHLY subjective view, but in my opinion, a skosh of facism, doesn't hurt.

I love that Rudy [illegaly, but still..] took on the doushebag who made piss-christ. He embodied the rage I felt about that. Also, he [along with RICO] took on the mob in NYC. I loved that he cleaned up NYC by curtailing basic civil liberties. I loved this guy before 9/11. Then during 9/11 he led this country for a few days, not Bush.

    Robert,
As an alternative to endorsing fascism even to that degree, please consider thinking of the appropriate balance of bohemian and bourgeois values as the goal. Marxist hippies have too much of the former. Giuliani has too much of the latter.

David Brooks examines the blending of the two value systems in his book Bobos in Paradise. Certainly, Hugh Hefner created Playboy by tapping into the 1953 version of the Bobo spirit.
